Message to Providers

On May 1, 2009, I launched an exciting practice in a new and growing field: Health Care Advocacy. This practice, in contrast to my 25+ years of direct patient care in Obstetrics and Gynecology, is a consulting practice that helps patients navigate the medical system. Healthcare Advocacy Partners helps patients with significant medical issues analyze, understand, and process the information about their condition to better understand their choices and serves as an interpretive service to explain the medical language we all speak and which can be foreign to those not in the medical field. The need for this type of service has become more and more apparent to me over the years, and led me to this next phase of my career.

We all know that over the past 20 years we have been pressed to see more patients in less time. That makes it very difficult to coordinate all the care that some of our complex patients need, or to do the education that most patients desire but is so time consuming during a normal clinic. With the abundance of relatively unfiltered and unvalidated information on the Internet, often several hours of education, interpretation, and analysis are needed.

The vast majority of these situations are beyond the time allotment for both the specialist and primary care physician. What I do is serve as a second set of eyes to look over the big picture, educate the patient about their disease and their options, and help with the coordination of care. The objective is to make your job easier, not function as a second opinion or a parallel system.

Here is what I do not do:

  • I do not examine, diagnose, or treat patients. I do not prescribe medications.
  • Although I may accompany a patient to an appointment, I will serve mostly as an interpreter. Your patients will remain under your care.
  • I do not take insurance, so my services will never impact your patients’ deductible, copay, or any other aspect of their insurance coverage.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions by phone or email. I look forward to working with you so that, together, we can achieve our common goal—a healthy patient
