National Association of Healthcare Advocacy Consultants announce changes to Board of Directors

May 30, 2017

The National Association of Healthcare Advocacy Consultants (NAHAC) today announced the results of its annual election and appointment of officers to their 2017 – 2018 Board of Directors.

Conceived in July, 2009, NAHAC was created as a result of a grassroots initiative to answer the growing need for improving the consumer’s healthcare experience. In addition to their concerted efforts to increase patient-centered healthcare, the Association has provided a national presence for the world of advocacy, with membership open to the public, healthcare advocates, patient advocates and navigators, legislators, as well as those in public policy and academia. NAHAC’s twofold mission to empower advocates and consumers to navigate our healthcare system effectively, and to facilitate informed decisions around high quality, timely, safe and affordable care, has fueled significant improvements in consumers’ healthcare  experiences.

NAHAC bids a fond farewell to two members of the prior Board: Marsha Hyslop who, as Secretary, kept meticulous records and minutes of the Board’s activities, and Deborah Jones, whose tireless efforts heading the Education committee resulted in NAHAC members enjoying monthly webinars of informative and leading edge concepts in healthcare.

It is with great excitement that NAHAC welcomes two new Board members this year:

Joanna Smith, LCSW, MPH, CHA knows NAHAC’s history well, as she is the Founder of the association and served as President from 2009 -2012. She has continued to support NAHAC in various efforts throughout the intervening years and is excited to return to serve on the NAHAC Board.  Joanna was elected to once again serve as President of NAHAC, taking over the reins from Dr. Sima Kahn who has successfully led NAHAC for the past 3 years.

Robert Rogers, MD, FACP, SFHM is a practicing physician double Board certified in Internal Medicine and Anesthesiology as well as a clinical professor.  His past experiences in project management within the hospital setting as well as his enthusiasm for improving the patient’s experience led him to express interest in serving on the NAHAC Board of Directors.
